Hello computer156,
I meant your operating system, Vista or XP? I think you problem has more to do with MS than with you machine.

  • I am interested to learn about database development for use
with CF dynamic development. Before I make any significant
    financial investments I'm wondering if
    MS SQL Server 2005
Express Edition is a reasonable place to start learning
    about db development.
The Adobe ColdFusion 8 SYSTEMS SUPPORT MATRI X indicates
compatibility with: MS SQL Server 7.0, 2000, 2005 - Does this
    compatibility include the FREE
    MS SQL Server 2005
    Express Edition ?
Does it bother MS that folks may want to use their db
    solutions with a competitor's dynamic-development solutions? In
other words, are the compatible db products fully functional with
    CF?

personally i like ms sql as i have always used it and am
familiar with it. I think mysql is the choice more for PHP
developers and I think CF works better with MS SQL. A definate
choice of preference though, i ilke the way i can install as many
    instances as I like.
    eg 1 for websites
    1 for applications etc
there is merit in both but here in UK/Ireland mysql is not as
    popular as MS SQL.

  • We are working on a proof of concept and need to use Oracle Database Gateway for MS Sql Server - DG4MSQL version 11.2 - on 64bit Linux to connect to a Windows database that is using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. I reviewed the certification matrix for the database gateways and it lists that SQL Server 2005 is certified - but does not specify which editions.
We are having some problems connecting to the SQL Server database and want to make sure that we should be able to connect to the express edition.
    Thanks.

Yes, DG4MSQL 11 is certified with SQL Server Express Edition.

  • Dear gurus,
I have the following question for you: is it possible to run Mobile Sales 5.0 SP07 with SQL Server 2005 Exp Edition? The specifications that I have found for both applications are:
    - MOBILE CLIENT:
Installation of Mobile Client with CRM release 5.0 requires the installation of Microsoft .NET framework 1.1. (OSS note 879643)
    - SQL Server Express Edition: Microsoft .NET framework 2. 0
Has anyone installed it this way?
    Thank you in advance,
    Judit.

    Hello Judith,
It is possible to have 5.0 SP07 Mobile Client installed on machine with SQL Server Express edition. For more information on this, you may refer the installation guide for 5.0 SP07 (Software Pre-requisites section, SQL Server versions). However, please note, you cannot install 5.0 SP07 Mobile Development Workstation on Express edition due to the large repository size.
You may feel free to get back to me in case of any further concerns/comments.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Niranjan

  • Good day All,
My client has already SQL Server 2005 SP3 installed. We are in process of providing him a new .net application but he wants existing version of SQL untouched. We asked him to install SQL Express version (SQLEXPR.exe) and configured web.config to local (.SQLExpress).
However client is getting message -
    'Setup failed.
    For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.4035.00&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&EvtType=sharedsetup%5csharedsetupactions.cpp%40LoadResourcesAction%40sqls%3a%3aLoadResourcesAction%3a%3aperform%400x0'
I am in a fix. What could have gone wrong? Clearly it has something to with already existing version. Just for information, client keeps his SQL services (using SQL Server Configuration Manager) in a stopped state. Could that be an issue?
Appreciate any one helping me out.
    Thanks

  • I've installed & uninstalled MS SqlSever 2005 in my system (OS - Windows 8). When am try to access my photo gallery on desktop, I'm getting above mentioned error. How come photo gallery is dependent on MS SqlServer 2005 compact edition? Now,
    I've installed & using MS SqlServer 2008.

    ErikEJ,
I tried the link you provided and it points to the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition that will not install in Windows 8. IS there some other package you are trying to send us to? I cannot install / run Photo Gallery because it needs SQL Server 2005 Compact
Ed and the latter when run reports it is not compatible with my operating system, ie., Windows 8 Pro, x64.
    Can you help?

  • Hello,
We have purchased Lenovo X301 with Windows XP SP2. After the installation of MS SQL Server EE SP3 soon after reboot the laptop failed with BSOD. After some search in the forums and test we stopped VSS service and at least it worked. Now I wanted to use osql or sqlcmd tools for running scripts. Starting both of the tools the laptops stops with BSOD and restarts.
Thanks for your hekp in advance

    Hi Prahlad,
Each time I install SQL Server Express I have the same problems. Firstly, you can use the standard MS SQL JDBC Driver (I think Jeremy has given the link).
    JDBC Driver:
    com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    Server URL:
    jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433;databaseName=<DBName>
You can also download the Microsoft SQL Server Studio Express client tool and test the connection to the database through this.
It seems not all the protocols and services for MS SQL Express are enabled by default. You need to go into the SQL Server Configuration Manager and enable the SQL Server Browser Service. In the same Management Consol, select the protocols and make sure they're enabled and on the same ports MII is using.
    Hope that helps

  • I've read through every thread I can find, but can't find an answer for this.
The installation gets all the way to the end, and then stops. I receive the following error message:
'Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup has encountered a problem and will end...'
I've tried all the troubleshooting tips. I never had any of the beta or prior versions installed, so I'm not sure what the hangup is.
Can anyone please help me with this?

  • Hi all,
I got a question regarding SBO2005. We recently purchased a new server and decided why not to upgrade to SBO2005 aswell. So we were wondering if SBO2005 SP01 also works (and is supported) with the MSSQL 2005 Express Edition or if it only works with the Workgroup, Standard and Enterprise edition.

    Hi Jacques,
The Express Edition is not listed in the 'Supported platforms' list:
    http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000654575&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000183&_ADDINC=&_OBJECT=011000358700001241092005E.htm
If I remember correctly Microsoft does not want the Express Edition to be used for productive systems...
...or at least the agreement regarding B1 is of such kind.
For a more detailled discussion or a formal answer please open a message to SAP Support on SAP Servicemarketplace.

  • I have downloaded the MS Security Compliance Manager, which is in two parts: MS SQL Server 2008 Express Edition & the SCM. The install instructions state the the server needs to be install before the SCM. So as the install continues I get
an error message, which cancels the installation. So, I am trying to install SQL 2008 EE separate from SCM. My question is:
Can I upgrade from my current SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition [ENU]
directly to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition (or higher)?

So as the install continues I get an error message, which cancels the installation.
And which error message did you got?
SQL Server Compact Edition is something different then SQL Server Express (or Standard) Edition, you can't upgrade it as you asked for,.

  • If we have SQL Server 2005 Express Merge Replication Subscriptions that synch to a SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition. Do
the Subscriptions still have same file size limitations even though they synch to a Proper Standard Version of SQL Server 2008?
If so what are these limitations?
What happens in the instance where by the server file becomes huge then the Subscriptions will not allow the data to replicate
as the Express Subscription engine has a file size limitation - or does this not matter??

You will get messages on your SQL Server Express servers that the merge agent cannot write to the SQL Express database. These messages are difficult to debug as you don't get a warning you have exceeded the size limit on the subscriber.

I'm trying to store Japanese characters in nvarchar fields in my SQL Server 2000 database.

When I run an update statement like:

from SQL Server Management Studio, then run a select statement I see only question marks returned to the results window. I'm seeing the same question marks in the webpage which looks at the database.

It seems this is an issue with storing the proper data right? Can anyone tell me what I need to do differently?

You need to check the globalisation settings of all the code that deals with this data, from your database, data access and presentation layers. This includes SSMS.

(You also need to work out which version you are using, 2003 doesn't exist...)

This cannot be a correct answer given your example, but the most common reason I've seen is that string literals do not need a unicode N prefix.

So, instead of

one would try to write to a nvarchar field without the unicode prefix

I was facing this same issue when using Indian languages characters while storing in DB nvarchar fields. Then i went through this microsoft article -

I followed this and my unicode issue got resolved. In this article they say - You must precede all Unicode strings with a prefix N when you deal with Unicode string constants in SQL Server

SQL Server Unicode Support

SQL Server Unicode data types support UCS-2 encoding. Unicode data types store character data using two bytes for each character rather than one byte. There are 65,536 different bit patterns in two bytes, so Unicode can use one standard set of bit patterns to encode each character in all languages, including languages such as Chinese that have large numbers of characters.

In SQL Server, data types that support Unicode data are:

Use of nchar, nvarchar, nvarchar(max), and ntext is the same as char, varchar, varchar(max), and text, respectively, except:

you need to write N before the string value.e.g.INSERT INTO LabelManagement (KeyValue) VALUES (N'変更命令');Here I am storing value in japanese language and i have added N before the string character.I am using Sql server 2014.Hope you find the solution.Enjoy.

SSMS will not display that correctly, you might see question marks or boxes

paste the results into word and they should be in Japanese

In the webpage you need to set the Content-Type, the code below will display Chinese Big5

To verify the data you can't use ascii since ascii only can see the ascii character set

run this

select unicode(address),ascii(address) from blah where key_ID = 1

Output should be the following (it only looks at the first character)12473 63

I can almost gurantee that the data type is not unicode. If you want to learn more you can check Wikipedia for information on Unicode, ASCII, and ANSI. Unicode can store more unique characters, but takes more space to store, transfer, and process. Also some programs and other things don't support unicode. The unicode data types for MS SQL are 'nchar', 'nvarchar', and 'ntext'.

Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Express Sp3

We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2(SP3). Our table collation is specified as SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. I have my types specified as the n variety

..etc

To insert Japanese characters I prefix the string with a capital N

Works like a charm.

The code is absolutely fine. You can insert an unicode string with a prefix N into a field declared as NVARCHAR. So can you check if Address is a NVARCHAR column. Tested the below code in SQL Server 2008R2 and it worked.
